In short
We collect nothing about you. There is no server of ours waiting to receive your data, and no account for you to create. Your location is worked out on your device and never leaves it.
This policy explains what the Uns app does with your data. It is written for you to read, and it describes the app exactly as it is actually built.
About the app
Uns is an app for reading the Quran, prayer times, the Qibla direction, and the morning and evening adhkar. It is a sadaqah jariyah, an ongoing charity.
What we collect about you
Nothing. The app has no server and no database. There is nobody on the other end to receive anything.
We do not know your name, your email, or your phone number. We do not know which device you carry, or what you read on it, or when.
There is no sign-in and no user account. There is no analytics tool and no crash reporting. We checked the whole app to be sure of that.
What is stored on your device
A few things are saved on your device so the app behaves the way you expect. They stay with you alone. We cannot reach them and we never see them:
- Your last known coordinates (latitude and longitude): saved once your location has been determined, so prayer times and the Qibla keep working when location services are off or your position cannot be found.
- Your Mushaf bookmarks and the last page you reached.
- Your settings, such as font size and your chosen reciter.
- Whatever you download yourself, such as recitations or tafsir texts.
Deleting the app from your device erases all of it.
Your location
This is the most important point, so let us be plain about it:
- We ask for location permission for one reason: to work out prayer times and the Qibla direction for where you are.
- That happens entirely on your device. Your location is never sent to any server, ours or anyone else's. We have no server in the first place, and we ask no outside service for your prayer times.
- Your last coordinates stay in the app's storage on your device.
- We ask for medium accuracy rather than the highest available, which is enough for prayer times and the Qibla.
- We do not track your movements, and we do not read your location while the app is closed. It is read when you open the prayer times or Qibla screen.
- If you decline the permission, the Mushaf and the adhkar carry on as normal.
Permissions and why we ask for them
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (while in use) | To work out prayer times and the Qibla direction on your device. Never sent to anyone. |
| Motion and compass sensors | To turn the Qibla compass towards the right direction. These readings are never recorded or sent. |
| Internet | To play recitations and download tafsir texts, when you ask for them. Everything else works offline. |
| Background audio | To keep a recitation playing when the screen locks or you switch apps, and to let you control it from the system notification. |
You can revoke any permission at any time from your device settings. Revoking location stops prayer times and the Qibla; the rest of the app keeps working.
Sharing and selling data
We do not share or sell your data, for a simple reason: we do not have any of it.
Your rights
Data protection laws grant you rights such as accessing, correcting, and deleting your data, and objecting to its processing. Those rights are exercised against a party that holds your data. We hold nothing, so there is nothing on our side to show you or delete.
What is on your device is entirely yours to control:
- Revoke the location permission, or any other permission, from your device settings at any time.
- Clear the app's data from your system settings to delete your bookmarks, settings, and last saved coordinates.
- Delete the app to erase everything it holds from your device.
Children
The app suits every age, and it collects data from nobody, child or adult. Because we collect nothing at all, we do not knowingly or unknowingly collect any personal information from a child under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the app changes. We will publish the new version here and change the last updated date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will point it out inside the app as well.
We will not add any tracking tool to the app later. That is a commitment we hold ourselves to.
